The Revelation Given to John by Jesus Through the Angel
This is part of the outline of history, but it is more detailed and explains things mentioned in the other chapters. The dragon that had complete worldly power standing on the shore of people (I believe that the sea represents the people of the earth) has to work through human flesh to do his evil work on earth. He chooses a man who is soul-less. He has the conscience of a brute[i] – none at all. The dragon gives the Beast the complete worldly power. Before we allow the devil to whisper fear into our hearts, let’s go back and review Romans 8:31-39.
With Yahweh as our fort and comforter, what can we lose? Why would he send his only begotten Son to suffer and die on our behalf and not do anything else for us? Besides that, who would dare tangle with one of his children? Oh, it’s true, bad things do happen to good people, but Yahweh’s children are safe in his hand all the time. We truly can have peace in the midst of the worst kind of storms and turmoil in our lives simply by recognizing, leaning on, and triumphing in the God of our salvation. There is nothing that can drive a wedge between us and the love of Mashiach.
We find in verses 3 and 4, of our lesson today, that the beast has crowns of authority and each one is inscribed with a blasphemous name. [ii]These blasphemous names are names that are contemptuous against Yahweh. Blasphemous names give Satan credit for acts of Yahweh. They are the hallmark of anti-Christ.
The Beast – remember this is a man without a soul and conscience – looks like a leopard with bear paws and a lion’s mouth. We will go back to the Old Testament for clarification of signs. Hosea[iii]talks about a leopard stalking in the bush for prey. Jeramiah[iv] tells us that the streets aren’t safe when the leopard is prowling and points out[v]that a leopard can’t change its spots. It is what it is. The Beast is past redemption. Its bear paws are for crushing its prey. In I Peter 5:8, the King James version says the devil goes about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. The Message says he’s poised to pounce and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. So stay alert and keep your hand firmly in the hand of Yahweh, your God.
One of those heads of authority looked like it had been killed and come back to life, mocking the resurrection of our Lord[vi]. Anti-Christ was first manifested through Nero, to Muhammad, on down through Hitler, and maybe the next will be the last, but we don’t know of course. When he comes the whole world will be blown away by the show and be willing to follow him anywhere[vii]. The Beast is a big headed egotist, the epitome of everything Yeshua warned us not to be[viii]. The Beast will be the opposite of the one he is counterfeiting[ix]. The Beast in verses 5-8 may be the same one as the one in Chapter 11:7-10, or one may for-shadow the other; but remember how it all ends[x][xi].
Now let’s talk about some contemporary events. Vladimir Putin seeks to regain empire status – become a world power – by securing control of the Middle East through strong ties with Iran. For that reason, Putin supplied Iraq’s presidential office with detailed intelligence about American military forces before March 5, 2000; and “captured Iraqi documents reveal that even after the war began, Russian intelligence continued to provide Saddam Hussein and his top advisers updated information on the U.S. Coalition force plans, as well as the highly sensitive movements of the U.S. 4th Mechanized Infantry Division and the elite Delta Force[xii].”
Of Putin, Rosenberg says, “personal freedoms are evaporating. Putin is centralizing all power to himself. He is becoming the new Czar of Russia.” Governors will be appointed instead of elected, T.V. networks have been nationalized, Putin’s political opponents are in prison; and now he is taking the territory he believes belongs to Russia.
Putin is selling nuclear power plants, fuel, and technology to Iran. He increased the military budget by 40% and announced the development of a new class of nuclear missile.
Foreign policy depends on oil in Israel, the U.S. and every other country. Israel’s foreign policy is restricted by the U.S. and other countries because of the need for foreign oil. Since we know the U.S. has plenty of oil but cannot use it because the government is controlled by environmentalists, we can deduce that they are a tool of Satan to keep the U.S. in bondage to Islam. Israel’s status in the world would change in a big way if she produced her own oil[xiii]. Israel’s desire is for peace and prosperity – the whole blooming of the land from an infertile wasteland into a productive forest – for Arabs and Jews alike. If Israel had oil Russia, as her supplier, would no longer have a reason for friendly relations. Russia’s total loyalty would be to the Arab world (most Russian Republics are Muslim).
A Saudi general during the Gulf War said, “We carry the vision of Islam in our bosoms – a vision of world domination where Islam will cover the entire world because of its power.”
Michael Evens said, “We routed the political power of Hitler, but the spirit that drove his hatred and genocide has moved on to instigate the terrorism we are experiencing today: bigotry and Antisemitism, hatred for Christian and Jew[xiv]. “God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need him. We stand fearless at the cliff edge of doom, courageous in seastorm and earthquake, before the rush and roar of oceans, the tremors that shift mountains[xv].”
Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said, “The tyranny of Iraqi rulers has its roots in the ancient Babylon of biblical times. The prophet Jeramiah referred to the dangers posed by Babylon – Iraq of today – to the rain of God’s punishment of the cruel despots of the land of two rivers. Some would say Jeramiah prophesied current events. He said, and I quote, ‘I will raise against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country for she has sinned against God.’”
Babylon is the spiritual center of darkness and Jerusalem is the spiritual center of light[xvi]. Rosenberg says that the Garden of Eden was located in the land we now know as Iraq. Israel is the epicenter of the world, Jerusalem is the epicenter of Israel and the Temple Mount is the epicenter of Jerusalem.
Israel[xvii], 2006: Hezbollah terrorists of southern Lebanon ambushed and Israel defense patrol killed three soldiers and kidnapped two for ransom. When Israel sent an armored car to rescue them, Hezbollah was ready for them with a pre-planned missile attack across the northern border. Two thousand missal hits in one week drove over a million Israelis into bomb shelters. Hezbollah’s prime target was Haifa because it is Israel’s symbol of peaceful coexistence between its Jewish and Arab populations.
For over 60 years Israel has been fighting a war of independence with different terrorist groups that are fighting a world jihad to destroy anyone who won’t worship their god, Allah, and embrace Islam. But this isn’t just Israel’s problem. Iran’s plan to “wipe Israel off the map” is only part of Islamic world-wide Jihad. 9/11 is a demonstration of their goal for an Islamic ruled world and the annihilation of the “Great Satan” of Christians and Jews. [Just as Christians are waiting for our Savior, Yeshua Ha Mashiach’s second coming] Iran is driven by the Islamic belief in Mahdi, the Twelfth Imam. They say he disappeared about 1000 years ago and will come back and bring an apocalyptic war that will claim the lives of many. Iran is 90% Shi’a, the most extreme of the sect. The Shi’a are ordered to war over Israel and America so that their messiah can return in a mushroom cloud.
Here’s a scenario: Iran gets nuclear weapons, eliminates Israel and dominates the Middle East. Because of the environmentalists, the oils spigot of the world is in Iranian hands. They can cut off oil to Europe and America and aim their nuclear weapons toward the west. Anyone who doesn’t bow down to Allah is toast. Of course we know Israel is not going to be destroyed[xviii], but we can comprehend that the plan of Iran doesn’t take into account the promises of the Holy Bible.
Remember John’s view of the world events as recorded in Revelation is from above. He sees over the centuries, the broad perspective of one looking through spiritual eyes not hampered by time and space. He sees events and time as a whole – we have few marks of time and place. We cannot legitimately divide the Revelation into periods of years. We do not know the sevens of seals, trumpets, and vials representing 21 distinct series of events, or whether they are synchronous or consecutive – or overlapping. We do know they are all incidents which Yahweh for-sees and controls. He will bring these events under submission to bring in his day of victory – the New Heaven and the New Earth. The general plan is clear: “Behold I come quickly.” John sees earth in trouble and storm, and heaven in glory and rest; and he sees beyond the historical incidents which are temporal, to the eternal view of Yahweh working and our Blessed Hope.
People may think they can get along without Yahweh[xix]. They may think that a flashy leader will give them what they want without any help from Yahweh, but as the Proverbs say[xx]the way of the ungodly may seem real nice at the time, but is a fast growing cancer that will last for eternity. The way of the righteous leads to eternal peace and joy. That is why Yahweh’s people can “passionately and faithfully stand their ground.” This is a call to endurance and patience for the Christian.
Prayer: Help us to be faithful and obedient to you, O Lord God, and trust the results to you, come what may.
